Equitable and Inclusive Partnerships

Camp ELSO is committed to racial justice and and to equitable outcomes in STEAM education for Black and Brown communities. In alignment with our mission, we prioritize partnerships with professionals, organizations, and agencies that reflect the community we serve. To this end, we prioritize partnerships with culturally specific organizations, organizations that provide culturally relevant programs, and organizations with significant representation of folks of color amongst their staff and Board of Directors.

Partnerships with Mainstream Organizations

After seeking out professionals from communities of color, we also engage environmental and STEAM field professionals of all races when their skillset is necessary in order to fulfill our program commitments. This also applies when their profession, organization or agency can add unique value to a learning opportunity or provide background and context for a specific field trip site.

Camp ELSO forms partnerships with mainstream organizations and agencies when these organizations are in alignment with the following standards:

  • The organization as a whole and organizational leaders possess awareness and recognition that oppression, unconscious bias, and discrimination have impacts at system, organization, and individual levels and are making strides to advance racial equity.
  • The organization has a written equity statement, lens and demonstrable commitment to racial equity.
  • The organization provides regular and ongoing cultural competency training and demonstrates a commitment to being on a journey towards creating an inclusive internal culture.
  • The organization provides access to training in trauma informed practice and care and use restorative justice practices to solve internal inclusion issues.

Organizations may be asked to provide the contact information for someone (employee, volunteer, member of the constituency the organization exists to serve) who is well-informed and can speak to the organization's practices and policies, or to their personal experience.
